Mustangs Upend Mt. Carmel with Class of 2022 in Attendance

On Tuesday night at St. Rita, with over 50 future Mustangs from the Class of 2022 and their families in attendance, the Mustangs beat Mt. Carmel 68-59 to break their modest 2-game losing streak.

Sophomore Joel Watts (15 points) led four Mustangs in double figures as St. Rita pulled away from the Caravan late to secure the Catholic League Blue win.

Senior Landen Gladney produced a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds while senior Jordan Matthews (11 points) and junior Jeremiah Oden (10 points) also aided in the Mustang cause.

St. Rita lead the Caravan 34-28 at the half as a thunderous Oden dunk at the buzzer brought the fans to their feet as the teams headed to the halftime locker room.

The Mustangs played well again on the defensive end holding Mt. Carmel to under 40% shooting from the field on the night as they outrebounded the Caravan 37-22.

The starting guard combo of Watts and Matthews combined for five of St. Rita's eight three-point shots on the night.

Junior Cameron Bartman provided a nice spark off the bench in the second half as he contributed 4 points and 3 rebounds in only 6 minutes of action.

St. Rita (11-10) will have take Friday night off as the Mustang Community prepares for their annual Winterfest.  The Mustangs will next host Marist in the annual Callahan/Griffin Classic next Tuesday night with a 7pm tip.
