The first week of April saw the water polo team continue its torrid start with a tournament title at Niles West, and the baseball team remain undefeated as they finished the non-conference portion of their regular season schedule.
The varsity water polo team travelled to Niles West this past weekend and took home their 2nd tournament championship of the season.
The varsity baseball team finished the week with a perfect 4-0 record to improve to (11-0) on the season. On Monday the Mustangs hosted DeLaSalle and fell behind 3-0 after the first inning, but the offense came alive chipping away at the early deficit with a single run in the 3rd and 4th innings before St. Rita took the lead for good by plating two runs in the 5th after 2 outs. Luke Napleton (2-3, RBI) drove home the tying run and Chris McDevitt followed that with a go-ahead single as senior pitcher Diego Koval earned his 10th career victory in a complete-game effort.
On Tuesday Vic Aguilar threw 4 shutout innings allowing only 1 hit as the Mustangs went on the road and defeated St. Joseph 11-1. Gavin Mottl, Chris McDevitt, and Luke Napleton all hit homeruns to provide the offense.
On Friday ESCC member Marian Catholic came to town and junior Jimmy Moylan dominated the Spartans throwing a 5-inning no-hitter as the Mustangs beat the highly rated Spartans 10-0. Senior Jalen Greer provided the big blow with a 3-run homerun.
Saturday morning the Mustangs travelled to DePaul Prep as four St. Rita pitchers combined on a 1-hit shutout as the Mustangs handled the Rams 12-0. Senior Marc Zavala contributed 2 hits and an RBI for the victors. St. Rita will open CCL Blue play at Loyola Academy today.
The track team travelled down to St. Louis as senior Mick Doyle led the charge setting personal bests in two events, both top 10 in the state. Lorenzo Alvarez also set a personal best time in the 800 while Caleb Green and Wayne Conley both showed improvement in their 100 times. The track team will compete at Lane Tech on Thursday.
The varsity volleyball team, coming off of their huge CCL win over #5 Loyola dropped a home match to Lincoln-Way West at home 20-25, 21-25 to fall to (10-6, 3-0) in the CCL Blue.
The rugby team lost their opener to St. Ignatius 42-14 as seniors Ryan Raddatz and Charlie McDermott led a good second half effort for the Mustangs.
The lacrosse team dropped their only game of the week 7-6 to Glenbrook North.
